Minister of Communications of Cuba appears on Cuban television

22 September 2023

Minister of Communications of Cuba appears on Cuban television.

With the appearance of the Minister of Communications, Mayra Arevich Marín, the television program Mesa Redonda dedicated its space to an update on how the digital transformation and the development of communications are progressing in Cuba.

When speaking in the television space, the minister pointed out that today the sector is involved in a priority process for the country: the computerization of Cuban society. “This policy has its precedent in 2017, when the comprehensive policy for the improvement of the computerization of Cuban society was approved, which generated a program based on several projects for its execution. This had a very important impact for the country.

First because information and communication technologies were developed and used better. Furthermore, because a more favorable environment was generated between the government's communication with the citizens and above all because in this period the use of the Internet by Cuban citizens has increased," said Arevich Marín. In his opinion, this has been an important challenge because from the development of computerization itself, “this whole issue of the implementation and deployment of the programs, which coincided with the pandemic, generated changes in the consumption patterns of our clients.” , said the minister.

“It is something that is said so easily but it is not so easy when it comes to implementing it. In a pandemic situation, Etecsa had to change the design, as well as the expansion and structuring of the telecommunications network. This, we insist, in a very complex moment where we feel the blockade has intensified, which sometimes falsely say that it has flexibility for our sector, which is not true, because it started there. That is why it is very important to explain to the population the effort that the country, and also the company and our sector, has made to be able to evacuate these communication patterns that changed with the arrival of covid-19,” he said.
