With the presence of Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, and Manuel Marrero Cruz, member of the Political Bureau and Prime Minister, the XIX International Computer Fair 2024 was inaugurated today, at the Pabexpo fairgrounds.
Ariadne Plasencia Castro, president of the Computer and Communications Business Group (GEIC) and executive secretary of the event, expressed that this exhibition section shows the interest of the largest of the Antilles in the development of information and communications technologies ( ICT) and the will of professionals in the sector for the growth of Cuban society.
Plasencia Castro considered that Information Technology, both at the Convention and at the Fair, allows the promotion of the image of Cuba as a nation in conditions and with ample capacity for the development of ICT based on the improvements of citizens. The president of GEIC stated that the event is a space for exchange of parties interested in the advances of these technologies that support the digital transformation process of several nations.
At the Fair, he stated, there are some 49 stands, of which 15 belong to foreign companies from a dozen countries, while from Cuba there are state entities and new economic actors linked to the generation of goods, services and computer solutions. For Plasencia Castro, the 2024 Computer Science Fair is a stage where universities and the Cuba Stand also come together, showing the panorama of ICT in the country.
After the ribbon cutting with which the 19th International Computer Science Fair was officially inaugurated, Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and Marrero Cruz visited several exhibition points, including those of the companies Xetid, Copextel, Softel, the Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Cuba S.A, Haitech and that of the University of Computer Sciences. He was accompanied by Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella, vice prime minister of the Republic, and Mayra Arevich Marín, head of Communications. Informatics 2024, an event organized by the Ministry of Communications, GEIC and the Union of Computer Scientists of Cuba, will end on March 22.
