Two Cuban projects have been selected as champions to compete for the World Summit on the Information Society (CMSI) Awards.

After the public voting process that was carried out online, the five projects with the highest number of votes were identified for each of the categories, leaving: Joven Club Móvil Ecológico, Joven Club de Computación y Electrónica, in category 2 on Information and Communication Infrastructure and the Cultural Billboard of Cuban Culture-La Papeleta, in category 15: Cultural diversity and identity, linguistic diversity and local content. Both projects were among the 90 champion projects out of 358 nominees for the WSIS Awards shortlist. The WSIS Awards are the mechanism created by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in order to internationally recognize the initiatives presented by the private sector, civil society and academic institutions.

This platform shows success stories and models that could be replicated for their contribution to development through Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). During the WSIS Forum, the 18 winning projects are officially announced to the public, the result of the exhaustive analysis carried out by the Group of Experts on the five most voted projects in each category.
